Race day came quickly and first on the course was Samantha Donoghue and Alivia Bulman running the 3000m. Halfway through the race Samantha settled into a nice position and Alivia was on personal best pace! Samantha came in strong through the finish when we all noticed she only had ONE RACING FLAT ON! She had lost her shoe halfway through the race but didn't even skip a beat. Samantha finished in a time of 14:01.73,finishing 35th. Alivia held her momentum through the final half of the race and finished in a personal best time of 15:07.93 which placed her 46th.
Next on the course would be the Bantam boys made up of Marcos Olivieri, Azariah Hooper & Peter Crapsey Jr. The race started and Peter was with the lead pack surging ahead. At the halfway point, Azariah and Marcos were focused on maintaining their speed through the second half. Peter finished 9th in the nation with a time of 11:14.70! Azariah was next in with a personal best time of 12:47.84, placing him 35th in the nation! Marcos had a strong finish and a season best time of 13:15.13, 42nd overall.
Our younger athletes were now up. It started with Jazmin Castro-Rocha and Jacob Donoghue running the 2000m course. Jazmin kept a steady pace finishing in a time of 11:07.32. Jacob, who was one of two athletes that qualified for USATF Regionals in New York was up. He had a strong first season and was primed to run fast. He was boxed a few times and was unable to make some moves where he wanted to but still pulled off a time of 9:11.14, which finished him 53rd.
Lastly, our youngest, Monica Castro-Rocha ran the 1000m course which was a quick loop around the baseball field. She is a determined 6 year old who was eager to start her race. As soon as the gun went off, she tripped and fell but got right back up to push for a hard finish. She ran an impressive 5:09.00 placing her 3rd in the Nation, sending the team to the Award Ceremony directly after the conclusion of the meet.
This was a fun experience for all of the athletes and especially for Monica who mounted the podium with a HUGE smile, proud of her accomplishment! On top of being able to see Monica on the podium, the entire team was able to meet Olympic medalist Manteo Mitchell who was part of the USA 4x400m Olympic team.
After the race the team visited a local fun center in Georgia to celebrate the success and discuss the season as a team! It was a wonderful cross country season filled with challenges, exciting improvements, & most importantly a great group of athletes who support one another. They all lived by the teams motto: Always Do Your Best, Support Your Teammates & Have Fun!!
